Calling All Mount Memories!!

Calling all members of the Mount community! Whether you're a current student, MSJA alumna, past/present parent, or current or former faculty/staff/administration member .... please share a message with the Mount on the occasion of her 150th birthday.

We're currently compiling your sentiments, memories and thoughts for a very special commemorative book and video to celebrate the fine tradition of educating young women that the Mount has carried on since her humble beginning in 1858.

Please post your thoughts here and help us celebrate 150 years!

It was in the early 1950's that I first came to the Mount. I was just 6 years old and I fell in love with it!
I knew I wanted to go to the Mount when it was my time. During the 50's I attended the Operettas (plays)and May Day Celebrations in which my sister (Marge Kropp Scully,'56) and my late cousin(Maria Puszynski Marshall,'59)participated.
My time came in September,1961. But I entered "The New Mount". It was such an exciting time. Our class ('65)was the first class to complete all of our 4 years in the new building.

These are some of my memories from those years:

Seeing the Campanile, symbol of the New Mount, looking toward the Old Mount.

Starched collars and cuffs on our navy serge uniform. Polished saddle shoes. We had "shoe inspection"!

Breyer's Ice cream hand-dipped cones at the Snack Bar (now called "Plant Bar").

Sister Claire Helene's "Radar cards" and Peanuts stories.

AA Day always held on Ascension Thursday. Sports and game competitions among the classes followed by hoagies and tastykakes.

The Foreign Language Lab

The Annual Spanish and French Club bus trips to NYC to see a Broadway show followed by dinner.

The Harvest Dance and The Christmas Ball.

Nicky, the Convent dog.

Enjoying being in the courtyard after we finished eating lunch.

Junior Prom at the Barclay.

As Seniors, singing "The Halls of Joseph"

Everyday laughter and good times shared. Friendships made that last until today.

I love the Mount!

Happy 150th Anniversary.

Kathleen Kropp Hart (Class of'65)
